SOPHIE

I'm a member of the English National Karate team and regularly compete throughout the year at various competitions. To support my journey towards these events and maximise my preparation I now train twice weekly with Alex. The benefits since beginning S+C work with Alex have been not only physically very helpful but also mentally. You are always a much more successful competitor when you believe in the training that you are doing! I would thoroughly recommend Alex and Performance Pro to any athlete or competitor who wants to take their training seriously and produce great results.

MEENHAZ

I have been working with Alex for nearly two years and in this time I can truly say that I have become fitter, faster, stronger, quicker and most importantly more injury free than I have ever been in my karate career. Alex has taken the time to get to know what my sport requires and I am always fascinated by how the programmes are so well thought out. Traditionally I would quite often over-train before competitions. I would be running long distances and doing sessions that were actually detrimental to my performance. Training with Alex has allowed me to blow away my competition, not just nationally but also internationally. My trophy cabinet has grown considerably and I have made huge strides towards my dream of winning a world title. With Alex's programmes I have this year won an individual bronze at the IKU Karate European championships and became Team European champions.

Alex is a professional and a master of his craft. The programmes are very methodically designed and catered to the needs of the individual. Has exceptional knowledge on the many aspects of training and has protected me from being laid astray by training fads. This is a man I trust, his training has helped me become a regular of the England karate team and for that I am truly grateful. Anyone who wants to achieve a sporting or fitness dream should train with Alex, just not when I am please, I still have some titles to win.

HAMISH

Alex is a first-class trainer.  He is polite and courteous with clients but has real passion for sport and performance.  Despite having had trainers before, I had never had clear training goals.  Alex set two for me in our first session and has consistently developed programmes aimed at achieving those targets: I've just hit the first, a 200kg deadlift! He has an incredible eye for detail and watches every rep, giving feedback on form and advice on how to correct mistakes. He has a great balance of being completely into his own training – which is inspiring when you want to be challenged – but at the same time understanding that, for most of us, the demands of jobs, families and socialising often get in the way of sport and diets. He listens well and plans training to match your sport or goals.  I would recommend Alex to anyone wanting to improve their power, strength, fitness or conditioning.

DAVE

Training with Alex over the past few years has moved my strength and fitness beyond what I thought possible, even with the limited time that I have to actually train each week. Due to his highly skilled approach and attention to detail he has transformed the way I train and helped me to feel comfortable with the technicalities of olympic lifting in particular.  His continued feedback on my form has helped me to understand and correct any mistakes as they happen. The training programmes Alex creates for me allow me to continuously progress and challenge myself so that I never feel bored or plateau.  He has definitely changed the way I view training and subsequently enhanced my enjoyment of it infinitely. I would recommend Alex to anyone as his passion for performance and improvement is infectious and inspiring.

I attended a talk Alex gave at our Physiotherapy clinic recently, regarding the principles of strength and conditioning. I was incredibly impressed by his breadth and depth of knowledge. The presentation was clear, well structured and most importantly, interesting! Alex’s ability to answer questions and explain complex concepts was superb. I feel that my clinical practice has been positively impacted, and that my ability to explain rehabilitation and strength and conditioning to my patients has greatly improved. As a Physiotherapist working with high level sports and long distance runners this knowledge is indispensable. I would recommend his courses to any of my colleagues.

Alex Adams is an excellent S & C coach. His understanding of the biomechanics involved in training specific sports means he is able to effectively rehabilitate our patients back to full health. His programming of athletes and injured patients is always highly detailed with logical and research supported exercise protocols. Alex is able to efficiently analyse movement to identify areas of weakness that require attention which improves performance and rehabilitation outcomes.Alex Adams is able to take his years of S & C experience and deliver education talks about utilising S & C principals in Physiotherapeutic rehabilitation. His ability to simplify complicated physiology and apply it to rehabilitating patients, makes his educational seminars practical and instantly transferable to treating your client base.

PAULINE

I came across Olympic lifting on a recommendation from a good friend and kind of thought, yeah why not?! Between the weightlifting and a ladies only strength training class I was feeling stronger, healthier and happier, although about 9-10 months later I started to feel like I wasn't make gains anymore and was starting to feel disheartened. I took a few weeks off for a trip and came back wondering what to do next.  I met Alex while going to the weightlifting classes as he would occasionally substitute and help us with our 'in-house' competition. In December 2015 I suggested we try 10 sessions and then I’d decided.... Over a year later and I now train with Alex twice a week and I get a great rush and buzz from it.

The one thing we’ve talked about over our time training together which has always stuck in my mind is Alex saying 'we will not talk nutrition and eating until you ask' - that was such a refreshing statement.  It gave me permission to just lift until I realised I needed to change how I was eating to accommodate the energy expansion I was demanding of my body and it allowed me to focus on one step at a time, rather than trying to change too much at once.

Training-wise, I enjoy how Alex mixes up my program every 4-6 weeks and we discuss my goals and what is realistic and achievable.  I started road cycling last spring and he helped by re-focusing my training towards cycling and a group holiday I had planned.  Alex will always focus on form and technique over weight, no matter which lift we are currently doing, and will always push me beyond what I think I am capable of achieving (75 kg front squats anyone?!).  He has such a calming manner, which automatically instils confidence into me.  I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve walked away from a sessions feeling blah and doubting myself.  I can walk into a session in the worst mood ever (usually work-related) and almost always walk away afterwards in a much better mood and mind-set.  I probably don't take my lifting as seriously as others but I love the fact that Alex doesn't make me feel 'less' for this fact but embraces it. I find this fun, challenging and it's my time to clear my mind and do something I love.

Alex is worth his weight in gold and I am looking forward to seeing what 2017 brings for my lifting.

'Alex is a fantastic trainer: intelligent, engaging and a mine of knowledge.  From the start, he focused on what I hoped to achieve and my motivation. I wanted to be fit and strong enough to engage in all the activities that I enjoy. Alex therefore carefully programmed training to build my overall strength and stamina. I am now fitter and stronger than I've ever been. This has given me the energy and enthusiasm to take up new sports. It is when I have found myself skiing for six days straight, or sailing for five days in a row, that I am most aware of the transformation. Put simply, if you want to be trained, and to learn how to train, in a safe, intelligent way - like a potential athlete - Alex is your guy. I cannot recommend him highly enough.'

MATT

With less than 1 year until I was to take on the biggest physical challenge of my life, the Marathon des Sables, I went to see Alex and his team to get some advice and a training programme that I could follow to help me get through this gruelling event.  Alex set me a number of strength and conditioning programmes in the lead up to the race in April 2016 which focused on strengthening my core and specific muscle groups that would inevitably require high levels of endurance. He was also in constant contact, asking for and receiving feedback from me to check that I was sticking to my training schedule and tinkering with it accordingly so as to maximise its effectiveness.  Alex left me feeling completely confident in the knowledge that I was as physically prepared for the MDS as I could possibly be.  His programmes certainly made me stronger in those areas that required improvement and I believe this helped me stave off potential injuries and ensured that I completed my challenge. I am forever grateful for his help and support.
